Georgia University and Atlanta Hospital Targeted by Unfounded Threats Amid Rising Hoax Calls
On Wednesday morning, a dangerous situation unfolded at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Hughes Spalding hospital and Mercer University in Macon, both prompted by bomb threats. Fortunately, after thorough sweeps by law enforcement, no hazards were found and the threats were deemed unfounded.
This is just one example of the growing trend of hoax threats plaguing schools and hospitals in Georgia and across the nation. Just last month, a similar incident occurred at Georgia State University. The GBI and FBI have taken notice of this alarming rise in swatting events and are working to address the serious risks they pose to public safety.
