Atlanta Fitness Center Sexual Assaults Reveal the Hidden Dangers of Locker Rooms at National Brand Gyms
Going to the gym and showering off in the locker room afterwards shouldn’t have to come with a warning sign. But for LA Fitness members, it should. Gyms like LA Fitness have repeatedly failed to adhere to industry security standards to keep their members safe in areas like the women’s locker rooms, resulting in attacks and devastating, lifelong effects on women.
Schneider Injury Law is currently litigating a case against a Marietta LA Fitness for failing to protect a member from being sexually assaulted in the women’s locker room by an individual who gained access to the gym because of its lack of security measures. The full press release is linked here. This assault was preventable if LA Fitness had implemented even basic security procedures, such as strict monitoring of the entrance, requiring personnel/attendants within the locker room, and constant monitoring of security cameras.
Sadly, this is not an isolated event. In October 2022, a member of an LA Fitness facility was arrested after reportedly entering the women’s locker room around 9:30 p.m. and assaulting at least two women. In early 2023, a disturbing viral video captured a sexual assault taking place inside an apartment complex’s gym fitness center.
Incidents like these are a stark reminder that no location is immune to violent acts, especially when safety protocols are neglected. Whether the gym is located in a commercial facility, an apartment complex, or a boutique setting, the risk increases when owners fail to secure access points, monitor vulnerable areas such as locker rooms, or respond to prior complaints.
