Atlanta Students on College Tour Take Shelter Amid Gunfire at Florida State University

On Thursday, a group of students from Drew Charter School in Atlanta were visiting Florida State University as part of a college tour. Sadly, their excursion was cut short when gunfire erupted near the student union building around noon.

The students were quickly placed in lockdown, taking shelter from the violence around them. This terrifying experience highlights the all too real impact of campus violence on school tours.

Multiple people were shot, resulting in two fatalities and five injuries. The suspected gunman has been identified as a 20-year-old FSU student and son of a sheriff’s deputy. It’s a tragic reminder that college campuses, and schools in general, are not immune to the alarming prevalence of gun violence in America.

Students Safe, Suspect Apprehended

Thankfully, school officials have confirmed that all the Drew Charter School students and staff are safe. They are now preparing to return to Atlanta later the same evening.

Meanwhile, the suspected gunman has been apprehended. As the investigation continues, it’s a stark reminder of the ongoing safety concerns in educational settings.
