MARTA to Begin Five Points Station Renovation This May After Lengthy Delays and Permit Disputes
MARTA has announced that they will finally begin the long-awaited renovations at the Five Points Station in Atlanta starting on May 17. This comes after a 10-month delay caused by disputes with the city over permit approvals. The $230 million project, funded by a halfpenny sales tax approved by voters in 2016, will completely revamp the central transit hub in downtown Atlanta.
The renovation plans for the Five Points Station include a new translucent roof and street-level bus bays, which will bring much-needed modernization to the outdated station. The new design will also improve accessibility, making it easier for riders to navigate the station and transfer between different modes of transportation.
However, the construction is expected to take four years to complete, which means there will be some disruptions to station services during this time. MARTA has announced that some services will be relocated and several bus routes will be adjusted, which may impact transit operations in the area. However, the end result will greatly benefit commuters and make traveling through the Five Points Station a much more efficient experience.
