Police Officer Shoots Man Wielding Sword in Wrightsville Gas Station Attack

A police officer in Wrightsville shot and killed a man wielding a sword after he attacked a firefighter outside a convenience store early Monday morning. The suspect, identified as Diamond Daspin Seltzer, 32, approached the officer and firefighter while they were speaking and began swinging a Wakizashi sword. The incident occurred around midnight at a SideTrack convenience store and fueling station.

Officer Witnessed Unusual Saga Unfold

The officer had been sitting in his patrol vehicle, talking to the firefighter in front of the store on East College Street, when the attack occurred. He immediately called for backup and then confronted the suspect. The officer ordered Seltzer to drop the sword but he refused to comply, leading to the fatal shooting. The firefighter was injured during the confrontation but is recovering from their injuries.

Motive for Attack Still Unknown

Authorities have not released a motive for the attack, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently handling the investigation. Wrightsville residents are shocked by the incident, as it is a small town located about 140 miles southeast of Atlanta and 60 miles east of Macon. This incident raises concerns about public safety in the community.

GBI Takes Over the Investigation

The GBI is providing updates as the investigation unfolds. So far, details about Seltzer’s background and any possible relationships to the firefighter or the officer have not been revealed.
