Teenage Driver Killed in Little Five Points Crash After GSP Pursuit Ends in Tragedy
A tragic incident occurred in Little Five Points on Monday evening, ultimately claiming the life of 19-year-old Cooper Schoenke. It began with a high-speed chase initiated by the Georgia State Patrol, which ended with a fatal crash that has sparked concern about the agency’s pursuit policies.
The pursuit was sparked by 23-year-old Faduma Mohamed, who fled from the Georgia State Patrol. Her attempts to escape the police resulted in a high-speed chase that ultimately ended when she ran a red light and collided with a Honda Accord driven by Schoenke.
Mohamed sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but Schoenke tragically did not survive the crash. The suspect is now facing multiple charges, including murder and vehicular homicide.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that GSP pursuit policies have resulted in fatalities and injuries in the Atlanta area. It has raised questions about the permissiveness of these policies and sparked concerns about the potential for more tragic incidents in the future.
As the investigation into this crash and the circumstances surrounding it continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life and calls for a reevaluation of the GSP’s pursuit policies. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Cooper Schoenke.
