Georgia Shaken Not Stirred: Three Minor Earthquakes Rattle Northern Region This Week

On Wednesday evening, a small earthquake measuring 1.9 magnitude struck Columbia County near Augusta, followed by a 2.0 magnitude quake. Both incidents prompted about a dozen reports of minor shaking, but fortunately, no damage was reported.

Northern Georgia has experienced a series of small earthquakes this week, with the first recorded on March 29 in Chattooga County. This earthquake measured 2.1 magnitude and also resulted in reports of minor shaking but no damage.

While these minor earthquakes may have caused some concern among residents, it is important to note that they are not uncommon for the area. In fact, Georgia has recorded over 700 earthquakes since 1974, with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.0.

In light of these recent tremors, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency urges residents to be prepared for potential earthquake activity. This includes having an emergency plan and supplies in place and knowing what to do during and after an earthquake.
